Why Uruguay.

Open country. A long coastline. Buenos Aires across the river.

We looked around the world for a place to build. Uruguay has the landscape, the stability, and the space. In Colonia, we can live on the water, close to two capitals, with room to make something of our own.

The coast: Open land, long summers, and water stretching to the horizon.
The neighbors: Buenos Aires across the river. Montevideo along the coast.
The country: A stable democracy with strong institutions and the rule of law.
The setting: A new neighborhood beside Colonia del Sacramento, with room to grow.

Phase I

Beginning in +Colonia.

A waterfront neighborhood of private residences, a resort, and spaces for art and music.

We are developing the first phase of Praxis Uruguay in partnership with +Colonia, a new city taking shape beside Colonia del Sacramento. Together, we are building the homes and shared spaces for residents, fellows, and guests. The first residents will move into existing buildings as the neighborhood develops around them.

Our designs draw on the Italian Rationalists: generous proportions, colonnades, and quiet courtyards. A long pool, a salon, a walk down to the beach. Private homes alongside a resort, for a few days or much longer.

Founders, artists, musicians, designers, and writers, living and working in the same neighborhood. Fellowships will bring young talent to +Colonia alongside homeowners and resort guests.

A home of your own, or a room at the resort. Both will put you in the neighborhood, with the waterfront, studios, and restaurants close by.

Fellowships

Support for artists and founders.

Fellowships will support young artists, musicians, designers, writers, and founders in moving to Uruguay. A place to live, space to pursue their work, and other people doing the same. Fellows will be among the first to arrive, living in +Colonia’s existing buildings.

Life in Praxis.

Music, art, dinners, and nightlife are already part of Praxis in cities around the world. In +Colonia, we are planning studios, galleries, and venues as part of the neighborhood from the beginning.

Music studios: Rooms to write, rehearse, and record.
Photography and film studios: Daylight studios, darkrooms, and edit suites.
Galleries and workshops: Spaces to make and show work, from painting to fabrication.
Restaurants and nightlife: Neighborhood restaurants, bars, and venues for live music.
